A philological study on poisoning and side effects of Bupleuri Radix(柴胡)

Abstract

|
Bupleuri Radix is in use in Korean medicine. Korean medical doctors use Bupleuri Radix for reducing fever by reconciliation(和解退熱), soothing the liver and regulating the circulation of qi(舒肝解鬱), etc. We investigated toxicity, poisoning symptoms, side effects, poisoning treatment and prevention against poisoning of Bupleuri Radix. The results were summarized as follows： 1. The main ingredients of poisoning are saikosapoinis, etc. The ingredients of poisoning from Bupleuri Radix mainly cause stimulating symptoms on digestive system, etc and cause hypersensitive reaction. 2. The representative methods of poisoning treatment in Western medicine are promotion of vomiting, washing out the stomach, causing diarrhea, desensitization and symptomatic treatment, etc. 3. The representative methods of poisoning treatment in Korean medicine take advantage of herbs, such as Glycyrrhizae Radix(甘草), etc. And Korean medical doctors should treat with acupucture and meet symptoms as patients call for attention. 4. In order to prevent against poisoning of Bupleuri Radix, the patients should keep usage, dosage and notes.
